Just as spectator-free races are returning at Fairmount Park, the family of the park’s only full-time female jockey, Elizabeth Thurman, lost their barn and three young horses in a fire early Sunday morning.
Horse owners are hard at work once again at Fairmount Park with the resumption of racing, minus the crowds. Generations of families in the horse business were happy to hear that horse racing had returned, but with new health guidelines. The track is closed to the public with the races televised.
